Music
It is our intent for the music element of our school curriculum to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills Music can offer.
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
Teachers have access to a wide range of resources to enhance the pupil’s learning including Charanga (see login below) and BBC Ten Pieces.

Children have the opportunities to perform for a range of audiences and at a range of venues; learning to adapt themselves appropriately and sensitively to a range of social contexts. In Music we encourage collaborative working and sharing of experiences, expressing these through song and musical performances such as our Nativity, Easter Assembly, Year 6 Leavers Assembly and Class Assemblies. Each year group is given the opportunity to perform in our Christmas shows, combining music with drama and dance, which for many children and families provides a highly memorable experience accumulating in a love of the performing arts. Children are also given the opportunity to watch high quality performances throughout the year from visiting musical and theatrical companies. They also visit exciting theatres to watch professional pantomimes. Children are given the opportunity to use technology to support their musical composition skills using apps such as Making Music via Purple Mash.
As part of the wider curriculum, the Leybourne Chase Choir offers children and their families the opportunity to take part in various musical events within the community and further afield such as the Young Voices concert at The O2 and other singing events in the community.
