Year 1 Trip to Tyland Barn
On Wednesday 25 June, the children took part in an exciting outdoor adventure at Tyland Barn. They became real-life nature explorers, investigating a range of habitats to find minibeasts hidden in log piles, rockeries, compost heaps, and tall grass meadows. With great enthusiasm, they searched high and low, discovering beetles, worms, spiders, and woodlice—each one offering a glimpse into the fascinating world of invertebrates.
After carefully collecting their finds, the children brought them back to the classroom area to examine them under microscopes. This close-up look sparked lots of curiosity and conversation as they compared different features and learned about how each minibeast has adapted to its environment. The session ended with all the creatures being gently returned to the wild, helping children understand the importance of respecting and caring for nature.
Even during their break at Tyland Barn, learning didn’t stop—Mrs Layland engaged the children in a fun and interactive phonics practice, making the most of every moment.
